As I mentioned in my earlier post, I had my first appointment with the midwife today. I won't actually see the same midwife each time. It's a group of 5 midwives who practice together. Because they rotate every 24 hours at the hospital and you can't guarantee which one you'll have at delivery, they have you see a different one each time. I really liked the one I saw today. She answered a lot of my questions about how flexible and supportive the hospital/nursing staff is with natural labor and delivery.
The baby's heart rate is in the 150s. It sounded good and strong! I am measuring a little big, so we go for an ultrasound tomorrow to confirm the due date! I'm super excited since we haven't had an ultrasound done at all yet! The full anatomy scan will be in 3 weeks.

Maybe you'll find out the gender tomorrow!! Excited for you!!
Glad you liked the midwife you saw today...though I'm sure you wish you could be sure who would be there with you during the delivery.
I'm so excited and glad that you got to hear the heartbeat! It's such a reassuring feeling!
How did the midwife know you are measuring big? (I'm new to all this so sorry if that's a dumb question!)
Lydia - I am a friend of Amanda Mizell's and like to pop over to your blog and read every so often. So I'm not a totally creepy stalker type... :)
Anyway, CONGRATS on the pregnancy! I am due with our baby #3 on March 8 - so pretty close to you. I was excited to see that you're planning a natural birth. As a birth doula and a mama who personally births naturally, I always have to ask: have you given much thought to natural childbirth preparation? There are lots of great "methods" out there. I personally have used and LOVED HypnoBirthing - The Mongan Method for my births (I actually got certified to teach it last year too), but the most important element of success in planning a natural birth is that you do prepare your mind and body.
You seem like the type that has it all together and has probably already researched your options...I just wanted to mention it. :)
Prayers for a happy, healthy pregnancy and birth!

Elizabeth: I'm taking my envelope just in case!
Brittany: When she did the internal exam, my uterus is measuring closer to 18+ weeks. More than likely, the baby is just big (I was over 10 pounds).
Emily: Thank you so much for the comment! I've "stalked" your blog a time or two. :) I've been thinking some about natural childbirth methods and I'm REALLY interested in HypnoBirthing! There aren't any classes around here, but I'm looking into doing the home lessons. Congratulations on #3!
I admire your patience. I not sure I know of any mamas who could wait so many weeks for an ultrasound!
so glad it went so well for you!
I didn't have classes available to me for my births either, so I read the book and self taught. There is definitely benefit to the class if it's available to you, but it's totally do-able on your own too!
If you would like to send me your address, I would love to gift you a copy of the book. :) My email address is emily@burlingtonbirth.com
